AB&I works with local community to address illegal dumping
September 10, 2019
The City of Oakland has an illegal dumping issue that at first glance looks insurmountable. But several Alameda County agencies have joined with the community and local businesses to tackle the issue. AB&I hosted a meeting on September 5th led by Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley to hear from the community about the challenges they face with illegal dumping, litter and graffiti, and to share best practices for addressing illegal dumping, which were identified through the Alameda County Illegal Dumping Pilot Program.
AB&I has been instrumental in Supervisor Miley’s Illegal Dumping Pilot Program. The main goal of the meeting was for the County and City to have a greater understanding of the issues facing the community and to provide the community with the tools, resources and connections they need to address those issues.
Local residents, Public Works Environmental Officers and representatives from the Oakland Police Department, Beautification Council and private industry attended the meeting. A road map to address illegal dumping was presented after significant input from the community.
